Airwick Candle

Target has $2.99 Air Wick candles. Use the $3 off from 11-14 SS, and they are free. They are located in the air freshener aisle, but at the far end, hanging off the side kick end thing. These make nice holiday gifts....if you aren't using your coupon, I know someone who will!

Walgreens Coloring Books

Walgreens has super cute coloring books/puzzles for 2 for $1 or 59 cents a piece. The puzzles were a bit junky, but the coloring books were cute. I picked up two Cars ones for $1.07. They are similar to the ones sold in the Target $1 spot. Located in the center aisle endcap.

Free Franks

Walmart has smaller sized bottles, 5 ounces, of Franks Red Hot for 96 cents.

Use the $1 off from 10-3 S, and they are free, I got the overage of 4 cents. But, YMMV.

Hy-vee Backpack

If you clip their coupon, from their flyer that came out on Wednesday in the Post, or in the entry way to the store, you can get this backpack for $4.99, if you buy 5 qualifing Pepsi Products. So, I bought 5 - 2 liters for $5. (that is a good price for a 2 liter, and we buy and drink it normally, so I wasn't buying anything we don't use.) The backpack comes with:
  • Compass
  • Protractor
  • 4 Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • 2 Erasers
  • 24 Crayons
  • 12 Colored Pencils
  • 10 Pencils
  • 1 Ruler
  • 1 Folder
School supplies are cheap, you can by the name brand ones for pennies if you go to all the different stores, but this is the cheapest deal on a backpack I've seen. It's a really nice backpack, and Connor actually picked out a "boy" one. There was a lot of pink ones to choose from. The ad says "limited quantities" so, I don't know if they would do rain checks, so if you want in, I'd go now.

I had a new guy cashier. He seemed really nice, and was very good with my coupons. Even gave me 20 cents back for using my canvas bags. It would be nice to have a different morning cashier than the regular 2 that I have already pissed off enough.

Dollar Tree

In preparation for the big vacation, I stopped by the Dollar Tree to find some fun things to do while at the cabin. I am always surprised with what I find.
  • Pair of Merona (Target) Brand sunglasses, tag for $14.99 on them still
  • Scooby plastic placemat
  • King Sized bag of M&Ms (Con got to pick out a special "in the car treat")
  • 6 pack of Keebler cookies
  • Cars puzzle
  • Water color paints (they are 97 cents at Target, but that is way across town)
  • Scooby coloring book
  • Bouncy ball with sparkly water inside
  • Boxed candy of Everlasting Gobstoppers (usually on sale for $1 at Target, Walmart as well)
A lot of the stuff is available at other stores, for around the same price, but Dollar Tree is close to where I live, and I find it a fun place to shop. I have long suspected that Target sells their close out stuff to Dollar Tree, as I have seen many things from their Dollar Spot at Dollar Tree. There were several Merona and Xhilaration Brand sunglasses there. Some are pretty wild, but fun. Located up in the front corner of the store, right by the widow on an end cap.

Hy-vee

Anyone else all confused about Hy-vee? Their last ad was good for 2 weeks, but now there is another ad on top of that. Check your Post. Nothing screaming to me in the glossy ad. • South Beach bars, boxes 3/$5
  • $1 Rootbeer floats from 4-7p Friday, 10a-6p Saturday, 11a-6p Sunday

Wednesday Kid's Movies

Winona 7 Theatre's Children's Entertainment Club is back again this summer.

Every Wednesday for six weeks, beginning on June 30, a different children's movie is shown at 10am and tickets are only $2.00! Here are the movie's playing this summer.

7/7 - Spy Next Door
7/14 - Planet 51
7/21 - Indian in the Cupboard
7/28 - Astro Boy
8/4 - Hotel for Dogs

Doors will open every Wednesday at 9:30am, movie starts at 10am. There are no previews on the movies, so the feature will begin exactly at 10am.

Kmart Doubles

Looks like Winona is included in the doubling! Anyone heard anything???

Well, it looks like select Kmart locations are at it again with another round of Super Doubles starting, 7/4 and running thru 7/10! If you’re new around here, Kmart super doubles means that you’ll be able to double coupons up to a $2 value– which means you could get a total of $4 off one product! It appears this time they’re just doubling Health & Beauty products (not grocery items) and only allowing up to 5 coupons to be doubled per customer, per day. Head on over here to check out some of the details as well as a list of all the participating stores– there are lots of stores participating this time!

I’m assuming the rules will be the same as they have been during previous doubles promotions. If that’s the case, then I would assume most of the rules below are correct. Let us know if you find out anything different.

Kmart Double Coupon “Rules”:

*You can use manufacturer coupons up to and including a $2 value (i.e. if you have a $2/1 coupon, it will be doubled up to $2 for a total of $4 off the price of the item)

*You must be a member of the Shop Your Way Rewards program AND the cashier MUST swipe your reward’s card at the beginning of your transaction!!*

*Limit 5 total coupons per customer per day.

*If you are using more than 5 coupons in your transaction, ONLY the first 5 coupons will be doubled.

*Does not include Kmart Store Coupons or Kmart Pharmacy Store Coupons (i.e. Kmart coupons will NOT be doubled)

*If you are not currently a Kmart Shop Your Way Rewards card member, do NOT stress! There are 3 simple ways to become a member:

1. Go to the Customer Service Dept at your local Kmart or Sears store and request a card; you will be able to sign up and receive your card immediately (this is obviously the best option if you have a store close by)!

2. Call the Shop Your Way Rewards Card dept at 1.800.991.8708; they will take all your information over the phone and then a card will be mailed to you (the card typically takes 6-8 weeks to arrive). Even if you do not have the physical card in hand for the double coupon days, you can give the cashier your phone # or member # in order to pull up your reward’s account.

3. Click here to sign up on-line; then just print off a temporary card to use while you wait for the permanent card to arrive in the mail.

Get a free ticket to the new Karate Kid movie playing now

If you plan on seeing the new Karate Kid movie (playing now at the Winona 7), here is a deal for you:

At Target, the Hook DVDs have stickers attached for free admission to the new Karate Kid movie. (Rumor has it that the Jumanji DVDs have these stickers, too, but I did not see any.)

Just buy a DVD for $5.00, go online to enter the special code, and print out a certificate for a free admission (up to $10). I checked online and our Winona 7 participates in this "e-Movie Cash" program.

So you get a Hook DVD and admission to the movie for only $5, whereas a normal child's admission at the Winona 7 is $5.75, matinees are $6.25, and regular showings are $8.

Cool deal.

Olay and the Buckets

First things first:
  • Olay face wash for sensitive skin, on sale at Target for $3.69.
  • Used 2 coupons for $2 off from PG 5-2 (but those expire today, but there are other ones out there for $1 off 5-16S).
  • Total came to $7.38, minus the $4 in coupons, $3.38.
  • Got back a $5 gift card, so, I made $1.62 and got 2 things of free face wash
  • (I'm not figuring tax, that just makes it too damn hard)

Next:
How lovely are these buckets? 19 gallon rope buckets, located near the patio furniture/grilling stuff. They come in red, green, orange and blue. I got a green one too. One is going to be for outdoor toys, and I am thinking one for Connor's room, and one for the basement. They were $6.99, on sale for $5. I tried to get Mango to pose next to the bucket, so you could get an idea of how big they are, but he doesn't know any commands, like sit or stay.

Target Soccer Clearance

If you're looking for any boys' soccer gear, Target has a bunch on clearance right now. My oldest is taking the 2 week soccer session through Park/Rec this summer, so I was *very* excited to stumble upon this deal:

Cleats: regularly priced $19.99, clearance-priced at $4.98
Socks: regularly priced at $7.99, clearance-priced at $1.98

Most of the shoes are in sizes 4-6, but I found this one pair of 13s, and I saw another pair of 12s. Different sizes may show up... who knows? They also have LOTS of soccer balls and soccer bags on clearance. All of this is located on an end cap near sporting goods, facing the wall with all the little kids' riding toys.

Hope this helps someone!!

Target Recycle

Target has special recycle bins now. How great! Left to Right:
  • MP3/Cellphone/Ink Cartridge
  • Glass/Plastic/Aluminium
  • Plastic Bags
  • Trash
I really like this, and hopefully more local stores will follow this. In Eau Claire, the Kwik Trips have special recycle bins for glass/plastic/aluminium. Which is great, I just can't bring myself to put a soda can in the trash. It will bounce around in the bottom of my car, rather than go in the trash.

Remember, Target loves it when you bring in your own bag, and gives you a nickel back for doing so!

Target deals

Target deals

I feel like I went a little crazy at Target, but I think I came out alright - even after the cashier messed up one of my coupons and shorted me $1.24. Oh, well. I hate to complain, especially when I am handing them a *stack* of coupons.

I am slowly learning that it is best to shop in small batches, so it is easier to keep track of the coupons. This is the second time in a row now that a coupon didn't register and I didn't catch it until I got home and then it is a little too late. However, making more frequent trips to Target may not be the best way to save money...

Anyway, here are my recent Target deals (a couple from last week, the rest from this morning):

Suncrest Farms (formally Smith Gardens)

Anyone heard of CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Vegetable Subscriptions? It is a group of local farmers that raise fruits and veggies, and drop off a vegetable share every week. I am going to do a 1/2 share this summer. I had a friend, Anna Kelner, do it last year. Here is a bit about what she has to say about the program:

"We loved it. I think it made me way more adventurous when it came to food choices and gave me wonderful ideas on how to prepare some delicious tasting veggies. They give you recipe ideas, but the really cool thing, at least for me, was it helped me to step outside the recipe and just try other things instead of just following 1-2-3 on the recipe. If I have X veggie, that might make this dish even better. I loved the chance to cut the vegetables up. I found it be very soothing and the boys would climb up next to me (out of the way of the knife) and just talk as I worked on dinner. I can’t recommend it highly enough."

The Great American Apparel Diet

I read about this in Time magazine. It's no buying any clothes for a year. I have a serious shopping problem. It's not that I am spending money I can't afford, just that I am buying things I don't need. I really have over 15 pairs of jeans, tanks in every color, a dozen work out pants, rainbows of sweaters, a swim suit for every day of the week, more hoodies than the Unabomber. Don't get me started on the purse rack. No more, no purses, no jeans, no shoes, no boots, no coats.

So, I think I am going to try it. I will buy no more clothes, for the rest of the year. Exceptions of what I can still buy:
  • Underwear
  • $50 worth of stuff from Express, as I have a gift card for that amount
  • A new pair of sneakers, when mine wear out, I'm a YMCA junky
  • Hats and Sunglasses (dollar tree ones, of course)
  • Socks
  • Headbands
  • I am still accepting gifts of clothing
